3.6 Piglet nest

3.6.5 Temperature control in the piglet nest

As piglets’ heat requirements change as they grow, the temperature in the farrowing pen must be continuously adjusted to suit the animals’ age and weight.

Animal Welfare Ordinance, Section 27(2)

Anyone rearing suckling piglets must ensure that the temperature in the resting area for suckling piglets does not fall below 30 degrees Celsius during the first ten days after birth, and that the temperature in the resting area for suckling piglets over ten days old does not fall below the levels specified in the following table, depending on the use of bedding:
