Animal welfare competence centres
The Animal Welfare Focus Network supports pig, poultry and cattle farmers in practising animal welfare-friendly, environmentally friendly and sustainable livestock farming.
To this end, three virtual animal welfare competence centres (TWZ) for cattle, pigs and poultry have been set up to collect, process and classify existing knowledge in a scientifically sound manner. The TWZs are each composed of an expert advisory board and topic-specific working groups and are organised by administrative offices. They are supported by experts from all federal states, who are available as technical contacts.
Another important part of the animal welfare competence centres are the animal welfare multipliers, who use events of various formats in the federal states to transfer the available knowledge and experience from the pilot farms to broad agricultural practice.
The TWZs are available to all interested parties (primary production, processing/marketing of agricultural products, etc.) as a point of contact and competent partner for questions and support the widespread establishment of greater animal welfare in livestock farming with nationwide influence for the respective animal species.
