Sewer pollution

This chapter deals solely with soiling. However, it is important to ensure that the condition is not caused by pecking injuries to the cloaca.

Target state

The sewer is clean and free from (faecal/uric acid) contamination.

Deviating condition

The cloaca is soiled with faeces and/or urine. In young fattening animals, any abnormality is more likely to be detected at the cloaca, whereas in older animals the bedding is a more obvious indicator. It is also advisable to listen out for sounds from the herd.
