Three pioneering farms from the network took to the stage at the ErlebnisBauernhof under the title “Digital, automated, animal-friendly? – Perspectives from practical farming” to present their ideas on the use of technology in livestock farming. Representing the Cattle Network was Sabrina Lilienthal with a presentation on “Sensor-based fertility and health management”, Dr Jochen Meyer from the Pig Network on “The use of AI-based systems in the barn”, and Dirk Siemers from the Poultry Network on “Smart Farming”. The three demonstrated the technology they are already using on their farms and agreed that it allows for more targeted monitoring of the animals. However, it remains crucial that technology can only support livestock farmers and cannot take decision-making out of their hands!
